PIAA Shakes up Regions and Qualifiers

And you thought the PIAA was done making changes to the wrestling world? Not so fast pal. Significant changes will be made to the AAA Regional alignments which will in effect change the number of state qualifiers in two of those Regions. The big news, District 12 AAA (City of Philadelphia schools) will now be in the Northeast Region, joining District 11 and District 2. This in effect will cause the Southeast Region to only include District 1 and thus only 62 AAA Teams in the Region.

Additionally, the AAA Northwest Region will now include District 4, which was previously in the Northeast Region, joining District 6, District 8, District 9, and District 10.

What does this all mean? The Southeast Region (District 1) and South Central Region (District 3) are now even with 62 eligible AAA teams each. With the loss of District 12 from the Southeast Region, District 1 (SE) will now have to share the 4th State Qualifier with the South Central Region (District 3). In the 2012-2013 Season the Southeast Region will have the 4th state qualifier while in the 2013-2014 Season the South Central Region will have the 4th state qualifier.
