Results Flurry in as Post-Season Action Heats Up

Each season it seems the post-season sneaks up and flies by. This season is no different as it is hard to believe the first leg of individual post-season tournaments wrap up this week.

In the snow covered South East Regional six of the eight sectional Tournaments concluded on Saturday night. The Bicentennial League Sectional Tournament was postponed until Tuesday 2/18 and the Suburban One Continental Sectional Tournament was postponed until Sunday 2/16.

Of the six Sectional Tournaments completed in District 1 several notable match-ups occurred. Upper Darby senior and #18 State ranked 106 lbs. wrestler Anthony Petril was upset by Garnet Valley freshman Nick Puliti in the finals (6-5).

The District 4 Class AA Sectional Tournaments wrapped up Saturday as the top four (4) wrestlers advance to the District 4 Tournament next weekend. In the North Section Williamson teammates Trevor McWhorter (138 lbs.) and Billy Barnes (145 lbs.) both remained undefeated on the season as they captured Section Championships. In the South Section finals at 152 lbs. #2 State Ranked wrestler Cole Walter (Mifflinburg Area) earned a huge fall over #4 State Ranked wrestler Blake Marks (Southern Columbia Area) in (3:17) to win the Championship. Expect to this match-up to be one of three possible meetings to take place this post-season. Brackets and results for the Class AA District 4 Sectional Tournaments can be found below.

 

The WPIAL Class AA sectional tournaments are complete and no real surprises occurred. At the Section 1 Tournament two top 10 ranked wrestler squared off at 152 lbs. as South Fayette senior Grant Fetchet downed South Park sophomore Greg Bulsak (7-2) in the finals. The #4 and #5 State Ranked wrestlers at 113 lbs., Brendan Howard (Jefferson-Morgan) and Austin Griffiths (Southmoreland), met in the finals with #5 Austin Griffiths coming out on top (7-2) over #4 Brendan Howard.

 

The District 8, Pittsburgh City League, Tournament wrapped up on Saturday. The top two wrestlers advance to the Class AAA North West Regional in two weeks. View the results here.

The District 10 Class AA sectional tournaments concluded on Saturday as Reynolds dominated the Section 2 Tournament crowning 9 Champions en route to the Team Championship. The top four (4) wrestlers in each weight advance to the District 10 Tournament next weekend. Below are links to brackets and results.

 

The Class AAA District 10 Tournament concluded on Saturday with the top four wrestlers advancing to the North West Regional Tournament in two weeks. At 106 lbs. returning PIAA State Qualifier Charlie Lenox needed sudden victory to down Strong Vincent’s Carmine Ciotti (6-4 SV) in the finals. At 152 lbs. McDowell sophomore Ryan Dailey upset General McLane senior and #19 State ranked wrestler Mike Sutton (6-3) in the finals. Brackets for the Class AAA District 10 Tournament can be found here.

The Philadelphia District 12 sectionals took place on Saturday as the top four wrestlers advance to the District 12 Tournament next weekend. In the Catholic League returning PIAA State Qualifier and undefeated wrestler Joe DePhillipo (Monsignor Bonner) cruised to a Sectional Championship pinning Father Judge’s Vickson Krah in the finals at 152 lbs.
