State Runner-Up Josh Shields Commits to Arizona State
Two of four Franklin Regional stud seniors have decided where they will continue their wrestling careers. One coach, Zeke Jones, has nabbed two of them already as Josh Shields will join teammate Josh Maruca on the Arizona State Sun Devils. Shields is a decorated wrestler from Franklin Regional where he was a 2014 PIAA Class AAA State Runner-up and will be a favorite to capture his first State Championship in 2015. It was Shields’ third career PIAA Medal after finishing sixth as a freshman and third as a sophomore. He enters his senior season with a career record of (122-18).
In December 2013 Josh claimed his second straight POWERade Tournament Championship and will be in search of his third in 2014. Shields joins teammate Maruca who gave a commitment to Zeke Jones early this August after an impressive showing at the Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND. Shields had himself an outstanding Junior National Tournament finishing in second place behind World Junior Champion Mason Manville (Blair Academy).
Shields predicts to compete at 157/165 for the Sun Devils and will be surrounded by National level talent. He and Maruca will join two of the Nation’s top seniors as California brothers Anthony and Zahid Valencia committed to Zeke Jones this June.
