NCAA Brackets Released; Pennsylvania Has 17 Wrestlers Seeded In The Top 10
PITTSBURGH, PA – The Keystone State leads the way with a total of 53 NCAA National qualifiers, well ahead of New Jersey’s 24, and now the seedings have been released. This year was the first ever where the committee seeded all 33 wrestlers in the bracket.
For Pennsylvania, a total of 17 wrestlers found themselves seeded in the top ten.
2-time NCAA Champion Jason Nolf (Kittanning/Penn State) is the top seed at 157 pounds – joined in the weight by #5 Hayden Hidlay (Mifflin County/N.C. State) and #6 Kaleb Young (Punxsutawney/Iowa). Fellow 2-time NCAA Champion Vincenzo Joseph (Central Catholic/Penn State) is the second seed at 165 pounds where he is joined by #3 Josh Shields (Franklin Regional/Arizona State) and #5 Chance Marsteller (Kennard Dale/Lock Haven).
Returning NCAA Champion Spencer Lee (Franklin Regional/Iowa) is the third seed at 125 pounds.
The 133 pound bracket is full of Pennsylvania Power with a total of seven wrestlers competing from PA, four of which are seeded top ten. Mickey Phillippi (Derry/Pitt) is the #4 seed and his long-time rival Luke Pletcher (Latrobe/Ohio State) is the #5 seed. Also in the weight are #6 Ethan Lizak (Parkland/Minnesota) and #7 Austin DeSanto (Exeter/Iowa).
